Hope Revolution

Let’s start a HOPE REVOLUTION!

Blog – 5-16-19 Hope is a powerful thing. Webster’s defines it as “a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen.”  Hope opens our minds to possibility. Hope enables us to think bigger. Hope helps release endorphins in our brains and manage stress.  Hope can and does change the world! Hope doesn’t mean that we are naïve about the tragedies around us. It doesn’t mean that we are ignoring our problems and sticking our head in the sand. It simply means that we trust in something greater than ourselves. We choose to believe God has more for us than we are currently experiencing.  When we are filled with hope, we become a magnet that draws others to us. People are curious about why we are so optimistic and full of energy. They wonder why we see possibility where they see failure. They notice that we are busy racing towards something while they remain stuck, waiting for life to come to them. And hope is contagious. We’ve all witnessed this phenomenon in action in sporting events. The minute a team that’s been behind starts catching up to the leader, when there is a glimmer of hope that they could win, the change is palpable. Fans start cheering louder. Players start playing harder. There’s electricity in the air. Hope is what drives that change in the atmosphere, and it brings everything about the game to a new level.  And the sad truth is, when people lose hope, they lose everything. They give up. They stall out. They get depressed. Martin Luther King Jr. was an ambassador of hope. He started a hope revolution that changed our country forever. He made people believe that things really could change. He stood firm on the dream God had given him and pressed on when things got hard. His hope never wavered. In one famous quote he said: “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.” Emily Dickinson also wrote about hope in one of her famous poems: Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words And never stops at all. Hope is a beautiful thing, but we all know how it feels to lose hope. When we do, our energy gets completely drained, and we become nonproductive. We stall out. When we can turn the tide and find a way to nurture that hope in spite of what life looks like around us, when we get brave and step into the unknown, God blesses our movement. And when hope comes back to life, that’s when everything changes. So let’s be diligent about feeding our hope. Let’s be intentional about encouraging others. Let’s be brave and step into the unknown with infinite hope. Let’s remember that the one with the most hope has the most influence.  Together let’s start a Hope Revolution! Hugs and love, Jill
