Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. For my days vanish like smoke; My bones burn like glowing embers. My heart is blighted and withered like grass; I forget to eat my food. Psalm 102:2-4
Have you been there, my friend? Have you been in the depths of despair like the Psalmist writes about above? I have.
When I went through my divorce, I was definitely in despair. I forgot to eat my food. I lost a ton of weight. I wasn’t trying to, but I did. The thing was, life was so overwhelming that I would simply forget to eat. When I did eat, my stomach was so upset nothing tasted good anyway. Anyone who knows me knows how much I like to eat, so this was extremely out of the ordinary for me.
It wasn’t a diet plan I would recommend to anyone.
Some of you reading this right now may be in that place of despair. Your heart is hurting beyond what you think you can bear. You battle to get through the day. You feel too weak to keep up the fight another day.
When you’re too weak to fight…lean!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Sometimes the best thing to do when we are in the depths of despair is to simply lean into the arms of Jesus. We can lean in knowing that he will go to battle for us. We can lean in trusting that God hears the deepest cries of our soul. We can lean in clinging to the truth that our Father loves us and wants what is best for us.
When we recognize our weakness, God’s strength becomes more and more available to us. God continues to show me and teach me over and over again through my struggles that the weaker I become, the stronger God becomes in me. I don’t understand it. It goes against everything that seems logical. It’s a paradox of truth, but only in my weakness am I made strong.
Maybe you’re dealing with a little, run-of-the-mill struggle today; but guess what, the more you try to take that struggle on and fight it yourself, the less you will get to experience the strength that is only found when you lean into the everlasting arms.
If you’re dealing with a major, I can’t take this Lord, kind of struggle, I urge you to give up the fight and lean.
Hugs and love,
~Jill
