Living Water

Living Water

Blog – 8-31-18

What is it about water that draws me in? Why do I feel such peace when I hear the ocean or the sound of a waterfall or a stream rushing by? Why does my spirit long to spend time by water in order to feel refreshed?

God gave me some insight into those questions today.

I had to go to Sioux Falls to do some radio and TV interviews for an upcoming conference, and I felt this nudging in my spirit to stop at the falls. It seemed like a really great spot to write my blog from today instead of my office, so once the last interview was completed, I headed here.

As I sit here and listen to the power of the water, I am reminded of the power of our God. As I watch the water just keep coming and coming and coming, I am reminded of the everlasting nature of our God. As I see the way the water has carved out different shapes in the rocks and watch the white water below the falls dance in endlessly changing patterns, I see the creativity and majesty of our Heavenly Father.

John 7:37-38 says, “On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ’If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.”

As I sit here and listen to the water and take in all this beauty, this passage comes to life in a whole new way for me. I’ve always admired water and its power as a symbol of God’s power and might. I’ve always thought of it only in reference to Him. But to think that the power I am witnessing right here at this beautiful spot is actually flowing inside of me is overwhelming. Jesus clearly says in the passage above, this isn’t just a trickle of Living Water. It isn’t just a tiny little stream. No, this is a river of Living Water that is flowing within me.

And that same power lives and flows in you as well, my friend! Drink that in for a minute. Let that truth sink deep into your soul. Isn’t that amazing to think about!

Jesus invites us to come and drink. He promises that when we do, the power of the Holy Spirit fills us and comes alive inside each of us.

And just like the water never quits flowing here at the falls, we can go to Jesus over and over and over again. He never runs out of mercy for us. His love never ever dries up. His grace is constantly overflowing.

It’s also cool to note that Jesus used the term Living Water in John 4:10 to refer to eternal life. Here he uses the term to refer to the Holy Spirit. The two go so beautifully together because wherever the Holy Spirit is accepted he brings eternal life, a river of Living Water.

Are you thirsty, my friend? Are you feeling weak and discouraged? Are you drying up spiritually?

Jesus invites you to drink from the Living Water and feel yourself renewed and refreshed. He wants you to know that as believers His Living Water is living and flowing like a river inside of YOU!

I don’t know about you, but visualizing a river flowing inside of me gets me pretty jazzed! It gives me confidence I could never have on my own. It drives out my fear. It gives me a sense that I can honestly make a difference for Christ in this world.

So the next time the enemy tries to tell you you aren’t strong enough, you aren’t good enough, you aren’t tough enough, listen to the power in the sound of water. And remember, that same power lives inside of YOU! Let that be the source of your strength!

Hugs and love,

Jill
