The Price of Passion
Blog – 6-1-16
The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness. Jeremiah 31:3

When I read these words from Jeremiah, I can’t help but hear the passion God has for us. Our God doesn’t just love us, He loves us passionately with an everlasting love.
It’s easy to spot people with passion, isn’t it. You can hear it in their voice when they talk about something that excites them. Enthusiasm shines in their faces when they are zealous about a project. Passion is infectious, and it’s what drives us to do and be our best.
Passion is defined as boundless enthusiasm, and I love picturing God with that feeling of excitement when He thinks about you and me. Let that truth sink deep into your heart for a moment, my friend. Beautiful, isn’t it!
The thing about passion, though, is sometimes it comes with a price.
Jesus knew intimately the price of passion – He gave His very life for it! He willingly sacrificed himself on the cross because He was so passionate about us. He is deeply in love with you and me, and He paid a very high price so we could be free from the chains of sin and able to live out our passion and our unique purpose.

I’m asking myself that question right now, and I’m being challenged on this point. I’m wondering if people get excited when I talk about my faith. Can they hear the enthusiasm in my voice when I speak about how God’s love and grace have shown up in my journey? Do they hear passion in my words?
Truth is, sometimes I sacrifice my passion for God and my faith at the altar of laziness, or selfishness, or complacency. My passion can be overcome by my lack of prioritizing and putting my relationship with Him first. I simply “don’t have time” in my hectic schedule.
Really, Jill!
I’m feeling the push to dig deeper into His word, be braver in my walk, and stand up fearlessly for what I believe.
I want to be as passionate about my faith as the author of my faith is about me. Click to tweet
I’m determined to resist the urge to stay quiet when I get those spiritual nudges to speak out truth, to be bold in my faith. I want to let go of the fear of being embarrassed about being different and stop worrying about whether someone agrees with me or not. I’m realizing more and more how fear is part of my people-pleasing personality. It needs to be gone!
If God has enough passion to chase after me, I need to step up my game a bit…a whole lot, actually! Dare to be different and dare to stand apart for my beliefs, no matter the cost.
Wherever you are on your journey today, I encourage you to think about the passion God has for you. Picture how enthused He is about YOU!
Let the passion that He has for you, the everlasting love, wash over you and fill you in turn with passion for Him, no matter what the price!
Hugs,
~Jill
