The Blessed Lamb

John1.29

Blog – 12-23-15 The Blessed Lamb

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas Eve tomorrow, it’s seems very appropriate that this week we are focusing on the fourth name of Jesus, the Blessed Lamb, from the lyrics to the chorus of “King of Kings.”

King of Kings, Emmanuel Holy One of Israel Prince of Peace, The Blessed Lamb Born to wash away all the sins of man Let us join the angels as they sing Hallelujah, hallelujah, King of Kings

As we gather with friends and family tomorrow night and on Christmas morning to share food, laughter, and of course presents, I’m reminded of a Christmas many years back where one present almost didn’t get opened. My kids were little, so the gift opening part of Christmas was definitely filled with lots of excitement and chaos. Their little eyes would light up as each gift was carefully opened (okay, actually torn apart as quickly as possible!), and the gift inside was revealed. I remember the squeals of excitement when they realized that Santa knew exactly what they wanted!

As I was cleaning up the wrapping paper, empty boxes, and tissue that was strewn all over the basement floor, I discovered a gift that had not been opened. In fact, was almost thrown away in the heap of garbage that was covering the floor. A present that was almost forgotten and unopened.

It reminds me of a gift thousands of people will ignore and leave unwrapped this Christmas…the gift of grace offered through the baby Jesus.

Because of that first Christmas, we all have the gift of salvation just waiting to be opened! God sent His one and only Son to be the perfect lamb who would take away all our sins once and for all. Jesus came to bear the cross for us so we can stand before our Heavenly Father forgiven and filled with His mercy. It doesn’t get any better than that!

There’s a huge difference between going through the motions and going to church versus truly accepting and opening that precious gift of salvation. It’s on us to open the gift and realize that Jesus came down that night to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins, the Blessed Lamb.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!  John 1:29

If you haven’t opened that gift, I encourage you to make this the Christmas that literally changes your life! Open the gift of salvation by simply admitting that you have messed up and are in desperate need of God’s grace, believe that Christ died for your sins, and then accept God’s forgiveness. I guarantee, you will have your best Christmas ever if you open the most precious gift of the Season…Jesus Christ, the Blessed Lamb who came to wash away all our sins!

During this magical time of year, I pray you have a wonderful, blessed Christmas as you gather with your family and friends to celebrate the birth of the King of Kings!

Hugs and love,

~Jill
